How You Can Make Your Move As Easy As Possible

Moving is perhaps one of the most stressful events in a person’s life — but it’s something that most of us go through at one point or another. About 35.5 million Americans move each year, but many of them don’t know how to do it well. This is because, for the most part, though moving does happen, it doesn’t happen often enough for anyone to nail down a preferred “moving routine”. There are many different reasons why people move — 2018 saw 55% of those who moved within the U.S do so for housing reasons, whether because they were looking for a cheaper home or simply a better one. Lots of people relocate after getting new jobs. Some move simply because they need a change of pace, or wish to experience different things. No matter why you’re moving, you will not be able to avoid some of the practicalities involved in the process. Yet it’s all too easy to let those things get away from you — which is why we’re looking into what you shouldn’t forget to do in the process of moving.

Take Advantage Of A Relocation Package — If You Get One

This will largely apply to those who are moving due to new job opportunities. Oftentimes, when a person gets a new job, their employer will allow them a relocation package. This is less likely if you aren’t moving a great distance, but it can still happen then. Relocation packages can vary. In some cases, the relocation package will stipulate that those moving are required to use specific professional movers. This can be a bit challenging for some — while it’s always great to work with a moving company rather handling the moving process on your own, you’ll probably want to choose your own local movers. In other cases, the relocation package grants a certain amount of money to those looking to move, and they can choose their own local movers from there. In the worst case scenario, you won’t have a relocation package at all. But you should certainly inquire about a relocation package if it isn’t made clear to you at the time that you’re offered your new job.

Consider Junk Removal Services

Perhaps one of the most tedious parts of moving is separating what you actually want and need to take with you, and what is junk. You would be shocked by how much junk or trash you can accumulate throughout your time of living in a space. But with that being said, a lot of people find themselves spending a ridiculous amount of time clearing out junk, or even taking some of it with them, when they move. This can be especially stressful for those who are leaving spaces that they rented — you may be charged if you leave junk behind. Therefore, it may be a good idea to use junk removal services. Often, local movers offer junk removal services as part of their package deals. In this way, you can have the junk removed from your house as it’s being packed up, and not have to worry about it.

Separate Your Belongings Before You Move

Professional local movers can do a lot to make the moving process easier on you. They’ll make sure that your belongings are packed safely and securely, and thanks to their experience you’ll be a lot less likely to lose any trinkets or break your valuables. With that being said, you’ll get the best results by being as organized as possible. Take your own inventory of what you’re bringing with you; sort everything you can into piles; and for that matter, put those piles into specific rooms or spaces. This way, the moving process will be much smoother, and take less time. Consult with your movers to see how they would prefer that you do this; the more communication you have, the better!

Ultimately, no matter what you end up doing for your own move, try to have a plan in mind beforehand. You’ll be glad that you did!
